Adoption Information

Deciding on an adoption plan can be tough, but for many women dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, it can be the most suitable option.

First Things First

If you recently discovered you are pregnant and are exploring your options, including adoption, it is important to gather information about the different types of procedures and their associated risks before making a decision.

Types of Adoptions

Adoption might be a suitable option as you plan for your child’s future. Many women choose adoption for various reasons, often wanting to provide a better life for their child. If you feel unable to parent but don’t wish to have an abortion, adoption could be the right choice for you.

Open

You will work with an adoption agency to help choose the right adoptive parents for your baby. You have the option to meet with them and interview them. Following the birth of your baby you and the adoptive parents can decide on the right level of visitation and involvement that will work for you.

Closed

There is no direct contact or communication between the birth parents and the adoptive family after the adoption is finalized. The birth parents’ identities and contact information are kept confidential from the adoptive family, and vice versa. Non-identifying information, like medical history and physical characteristics, may be shared, but no direct contact or sharing of personal information is allowed.

Considering an Adoption?

As you consider adoption, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I feel my baby will have a better life with an adoptive family?
  • Do I want to be able to have contact with my baby through an open adoption?
  • Would I prefer a closed adoption with no additional contact after birth?
What is the Adoption Process?

We will help you contact an adoption agency and create a plan; the plan will include the type of adoption (open or closed); you and the baby’s father must consent to the adoption; an adoption agreement will be filed with the courts;  in order for the adoption to proceed, your parental rights will be terminated and the adoptive parents will have full parental rights
